Rapper Faces Health Risks After Getting Gold Chains Surgically Implanted as Hair

Back in 2021, Spanish rapper Dan Sur surprised his fans by doing something no one expected—he had gold chains surgically implanted into his head to replace his hair. He shared the process on TikTok, telling his followers how the chains were hooked into his scalp, under his skin, and secured to his skull. “This is my hair. Golden hair. The first rapper to have gold hair implanted in human history,” he said.

At first, some people thought his new look was fake, so Dan Sur proved them wrong by showing how the chains didn’t float in water. While he seemed happy with his bold choice, experts quickly raised concerns about the risks involved.

Dr. Frank Agullo, a plastic surgeon, warned that implants like this could create a pathway for bacteria to enter the body, possibly leading to infections that could affect the bone near the brain. He also pointed out the dangers of the weight of the chains, saying any sudden tug could cause the implant to dislodge or even fracture the skull.

The rapper has permanent hooks attached to his head, even when the chains are removed. This led dermatologist Dr. Mona Gohara to caution that the hooks could cause permanent hair loss due to inflammation and scarring on the scalp.

Despite the warnings, Dan Sur has continued rocking his gold chain hair for over three years without reporting any issues. He’s even switched up the colors, sometimes wearing silver or multi-colored chains to match his outfits.

Experts like Agullo still strongly advise against trying something like this, saying it’s safer to go with alternatives like wearing a gold chain wig.
