After the storm settled over Hillsborough County, Florida, teams from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue (HCFR) waded through the water-filled streets. They were on a mission, not just to find people but to make sure pets weren’t left behind either.
One pup in particular stood out. As HCFR Captain Dusty Mascaro carefully carried the dog to dry ground, a photo captured the moment. The dog looked up at Mascaro with eyes that seemed to say “thank you.” Later, HCFR shared the picture, captioning it, “This dog’s eyes say it all.”
In their updates, HCFR shared that since Hurricane Milton, they’ve helped 104 pets so far. Each pet they carried to safety meant another life saved. “We’re grateful for the chance to serve and protect every member of our community, big or small,” HCFR added.
These rescues are just one part of the huge relief efforts following Hurricanes Helene and Milton, reminding everyone that sometimes a simple, grateful look can say more than words.
